We Are The In Crowd is one of my favorite pop-punk guilty pleasures. No matter what I do, I can’t resist their infectious hooks, fun, lighthearted lyrics, and spunky frontwoman Tay Jardine.
Since the release of their 2011 debut album, Best Intentions, the group has been touring heavily, sharing the stage with fellow pop-rock heavy hitters including All Time Low, Mayday Parade, Yellowcard, Never Shout Never, and more. This week, the group announced that not only are they releasing their sophomore album, Weird Kids, on February 18th, they will also be heading out on tour to promote the album with a lineup pop-punk fans dreams are made of.
The New York-based group will release Weird Kids on Hopeless Records (home of their debut album), and the effort will be produced by John Feldmann (The Used, Yellowcard, All Time Low, Panic! At The Disco). While such a long gap in between albums may raise eyebrows, rushing to release a sophomore album also has its shortcomings, and it seems the lengthy break allowed We Are The In Crowd to dig a little deeper for inspiration than previous material.
The album will boast Jardine’s “most personal lyrics of her life” including the expected coverage of “shitty breakups” but also stretching to more mature topics such as the singer’s late father. These elements, along with Jardine stating the album was written during an “all-time high” of creativity for the group, promise a solid sophomore record for pop punk’s sweethearts. The group has already released the first insanely catchy single, “The Best Thing (That Never Happened),” which you can stream on Spotify.
To sweeten the deal even more, We Are the In Crowd will be heading on tour to promote the new album this spring with William Beckett (The Academy Is…), State Champs, Set It Off, and Candy Hearts, with a stop here playing the infamous Chain Reaction, the picture perfect venue for lively pop-punk shows! Pick up your VIP pre-sale tickets today or wait for general tickets to go on sale Friday, December 6th.
